What is the difference between a gel battery and a regular battery?
Gel batteries score highly with their low electrode wear, which results in a longer service life in comparison with conventional lead-acid batteries.
However, due to their increased internal resistance gel batteries cannot produce high cold start currents within short intervals.

Best suited for Deep cycle applications and their life is generally in the 500 to 5000 cycles range.

What is the problem with gel batteries?
Common problems of GEL (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries are: Battery not holding charge.
Battery cannot be fully charged. The battery cannot maintain its charge.
How long will gel battery last?
A lead-acid battery that is regularly used and thus charged, such as in a daily driving vehicle, has an expected lifespan between 3 and 5 years.
In contrast, a high-quality 12V gel battery that is similarly cared for and regularly kept at a high charge will last over a decade and can last upwards of two decades.
